Suffixes that link words: word groups

Textbook: Part 2, pp. 70–72
GoalMake word groups with the linking suffixes.
New words
word group · so‘z birikmasicover · muqovato open · ochmoqto drink · ichmoq
Explanation

Two words linked by meaning make a word group. In the group one word takes a linking suffix: kitobning muqovasi (the cover of the book), daftarni ochmoq (to open the notebook), maktabga bormoq (to go to school), bog‘da ishlamoq (to work in the garden), buloqdan ichmoq (to drink from a spring). We can build a sentence with a group and then separate main and secondary parts.

Worked examples
kitob + -ning: kitobning muqovasi; daftar + -ni: daftarni ochmoq; bog‘ + -da: bog‘da ishlamoq.
Dadam bog‘da ishlaydi. (My dad works in the garden.) Subject: dadam. Predicate: ishlaydi. Qayerda? — bog‘da (secondary part).
Class activity

“Word-group workshop”: children join words from one list (mushuk, uy, ko‘l) to other words with linking suffixes: mushukning dumi (the cat’s tail), uyga kirmoq (to enter the house), ko‘ldan chiqmoq (to come out of the lake).

Practice
1
Make a word group from daftar + -ni.
2
Make a word group from buloq (spring) + -dan.
3
Make a sentence with the group uyga kirmoq.
