Explanation

Suffixes such as -chi, -la, -kor, -dosh, -li, -siz are word-forming suffixes. They are added to a base and make a word with a new meaning: baliq (fish) — baliqchi (fisherman), g‘alla (grain) — g‘allakor (grain grower), kuch (strength) — kuchli (strong). In analysis we mark the base with a half-circle and the word-forming suffix with a triangle.

Worked examples
baliqchi: baliq — base, -chi — word-forming suffix. Baliqchi answers Kim?
maktabdosh (schoolmate): maktab — base, -dosh — suffix. Ishla (work!): ish — base, -la — suffix. Kuchli: kuch — base, -li — suffix.
Class activity

“Suffix workshop”: children stick suffix cards (-kor, -chi) onto base cards (g‘alla, gul, baliq) to make a new word and read it aloud.
