Explanation
Speech is made of sentences and a sentence is made of words. Connected sentences that express a complete thought form a text. By purpose, sentences are statements, questions and commands. A sentence said with strong feeling is an exclamation. The Uzbek alphabet has 29 letters, 6 of them vowels: a, e, i, o, u, o‘.
Worked examples
Statement: Kuz sentabr oyidan boshlanadi. (Autumn begins in September.) Question: Kuz qachon boshlanadi? (When does autumn begin?) Command: Kuzgi barglarni yig‘ing. (Collect the autumn leaves.) Exclamation: Qanday go‘zal kuz! (What a beautiful autumn!)
Vowel letters: a, e, i, o, u, o‘ — 6 in all. For example, olma has two vowels: o and a.
Class activity
“Name the sentence type”: the teacher reads sentences one after another. Children show statement, question, command or exclamation with a matching gesture.
