Adjective-forming suffixes (2)

Textbook: Part 3, pp. 50–51
GoalKnow the suffixes -dor and -q and analyse formed adjectives.
New words
fruitful · hosildorcheerful · quvnoqboiling hot · qaynoqscattered · tarqoq
Explanation

-dor also gives the meaning “having”: hosil – hosildor yer (fertile land), ma’no – ma’nodor gap (a meaningful sentence). The suffix -q makes adjectives from verbs: quvna – quvnoq, qayna – qaynoq, tarqa – tarqoq. In these the a of the base changes to o. When analysing a formed word we separate the base and the suffix: quvnoq – quvna (base), -q (word-forming).

Worked examples
Hosildor dala (a fruitful field); ma’nodor so‘z (a meaningful word); jozibador kitob (an attractive book).
Quvnoq bolalar o‘ynayapti. (Cheerful children are playing.) Qaynoq choy ichdim. (I drank boiling hot tea.) Tarqoq qo‘ylar yig‘ildi. (The scattered sheep gathered.)
