Review: numerals and dates
Textbook: pp. 25–26
ЦельReview the spelling and declension of cardinal and ordinal numerals and dates.
A review. Soft sign: at the end of 5–20 and 30, in the middle of 50–80 and 500–900. «Сорок, девяносто, сто» become «сорока, девяноста, ста» in the oblique cases. In 50–80, 500–900 and compound numerals every part declines. Ordinals decline like adjectives, and in a compound ordinal only the last word changes. When we read sums aloud the numbers stand in cases: «К двумстам пятидесяти прибавить сорок — получится двести девяносто». A curiosity: according to the textbook, «сорок» once meant a bag that held forty sable skins (related to «сорочка»), and «девяносто» comes from «десять до ста».
