Action passing to another object: transitive verbs
Textbook: pp. 39–42
ЦельRecognise transitive verbs («читать книгу, встречать друга») and combine them with a noun in the accusative.
Verbs whose action passes to another person or thing are transitive verbs («переходные глаголы»). They take a noun in the accusative without a preposition and answer «кого? что?»: «читать книгу, встречать друга, украшать ёлку, любить маму». The other verbs are intransitive: «идти, спать, жить, смеяться, стоять». «Идти в школу» is not transitive: although «в школу» is in the accusative, it comes with a preposition. Accusative forms: nouns in «-а, -я» change to «-у, -ю» («книга — книгу, сестра — сестру»); inanimate nouns look like the nominative («вижу дом, окно»); animate masculine nouns and animate plurals look like the genitive («встречаю друга, вижу учеников»).

Все любят этот праздник.» (We decorate the tree, prepare presents and wait for guests. Grandma bakes a pie and Dad meets Grandfather. Everyone loves this holiday.)
