Объяснение
Profession names are often built with the suffixes «-тель, -ист, -чик, -ник, -ец»: «учитель, пианист, лётчик, художник, продавец». To name a woman, the suffixes «-ниц-, -к-, -чиц-, -щиц-» are added: «учительница, пианистка, переводчица, продавщица». Some professions have no feminine form: «врач, юрист, библиотекарь, дизайнер». They are used for men and women alike, and another word shows the gender: «Моя сестра — юрист. Мой брат — юрист». A character trait is formed from an adjective with the suffix «-ость» and is a feminine noun: «смелый — смелость, вежливый — вежливость». The gender of a noun ending in a soft sign is shown by the word agreeing with it: «тёплый день» (masculine), «важная цель» (feminine).
Примеры
“Наша семья” (Our family). «Мой старший брат — лётчик, а сестра — переводчица. Брату нужны смелость и точность, а сестре — внимательность и терпение. Тётя работает дизайнером, и дядя тоже дизайнер.» (My elder brother is a pilot and my sister is a translator. My brother needs courage and precision, my sister attentiveness and patience. My aunt works as a designer, and my uncle is a designer too.)
“Who is this?” The teacher says a masculine profession («переводчик»); the pupils say the feminine («переводчица»). If there is no feminine form («врач»), everyone stands up.
