Doll pattern: making, placing on fabric, cutting
The doll pattern is made by drawing equal squares over the picture in the book. The smaller the squares, the more exactly points are copied. On clean or millimetre paper draw a rectangle fitting the item and divide it into as many squares as in the book. To enlarge the pattern, the new squares are bigger than the original; to reduce it, they are smaller. The key points are copied square by square onto the clean grid and joined by a smooth line; numbers on two sides of the grid help find the points. The result: cut the body ×2, legs ×2, arms ×2, slippers ×2. You need plain fabric, needle, thread, scissors, thimble, ruler and small pins, all used under the teacher’s supervision and by the rules.
Grid game: draw a simple picture (house or flower) on a 1 cm grid, then enlarge it on a 2 cm grid. No scissors, only pencil.
