Layout of the woodworking workshop
Woodworking lessons take place in the school’s special workshop. Every pupil is given a permanent workplace, that is, the part of the room where a bench stands. The workplace is equipped with a seat, a small cabinet, a sliding box, a tool cabinet, goggles and drawings; these must not stick out of the workplace. The workshop also has a hand-washing basin, a first-aid box, a cabinet for tools and materials, a cabinet for teaching aids, and milling, drilling, turning, planing and sawing machines. Workplaces and passages must not be blocked with material, sample items or waste. Fire-prevention requirements are always followed, because wood and shavings burn easily.
Plan drawing: pupils draw a simplified 1:50 plan of the carpentry workshop on squared paper (benches, cabinet, basin, first-aid box, aisles). Aisles should be at least 1 m wide. Pencil and ruler only.
