Adjectives of shape and size

Textbook: Part 3, pp. 35–37
GoalKnow adjectives of shape and size and use them to describe things.
New words
shape · shaklsize · hajmround · dumaloqthin · ingichka
Explanation

Adjectives of shape show a thing’s shape, size and measure: dumaloq (round), uzunchoq (oblong), yassi (flat), keng (wide), tor (narrow), uzun (long), kalta (short), katta, kichik, yo‘g‘on (thick), ingichka (thin), qalin (thick, of layers), yupqa (thin, of layers). Many form antonym pairs: keng – tor, yo‘g‘on – ingichka, qalin – yupqa. Use shape adjectives together with colour and taste adjectives when describing.

Worked examples
Anor dumaloq va yirik. (A pomegranate is round and big.) Qalin kitob, yupqa daftar. (A thick book, a thin notebook.)
Yo‘g‘on daraxt, ingichka novda. (A thick tree, a thin twig.) Keng ko‘cha, tor ko‘cha. (A wide street, a narrow street.)
Class activity

“Describe and guess”: a child describes an object with shape adjectives (without naming it) and the class guesses what it is.

Practice

2
Find the shape adjective: moviy, yassi, shirin.
