Choosing verbs that fit the sentence
Textbook: Part 4, p. 38
GoalChoose a verb that fits the sentence: noun and verb must suit each other.
New words
suitable · mosmeaning · mazmunto sing (of birds) · sayramoqto neigh · kishnamoq
Explanation
Each word goes with its own verb. A bird sings (sayraydi), a horse neighs (kishnaydi), a dog barks (akillaydi), a cat meows (miyovlaydi). Rain falls (yog‘adi), wind blows (esadi), a flower opens (ochiladi). We choose the verb by the meaning of the sentence: we cannot say «Qush akillaydi» (a bird barks). Before choosing, think about who or what the sentence is about.
Worked examples
In spring birds sing in the trees. Rain is falling along the street. Flowers open in the garden.
Dawn broke, the rooster crowed, the sheep bleated, the horse neighed.
Class activity
“Who does what?”: one child names an animal or thing, another finds the matching verb: it (dog) — akillaydi (barks).
