Adjectives with opposite meanings: practice
Textbook: Part 3, pp. 90–91
GoalUse opposite adjectives in word groups and sentences.
New words
good · yaxshibad · yomonhard · qattiqsoft · yumshoq
Explanation
Opposite adjectives belong to the same kind of word. Said together with a noun, the meaning is clear: baland daraxt — past buta (tall tree — low bush), yumshoq non — qattiq non (soft bread — hard bread), toza ko‘ylak — iflos ko‘ylak (clean dress — dirty dress). Proverbs are full of opposites too: “Yaxshi so‘z — jon ozig‘i, yomon so‘z — bosh qozig‘i” (A good word is food for the soul, a bad word is a stake in the head).
Worked examples
Yaxshi bola — yomon bola emas. (A good child is not a bad child.) Yumshoq non qattiq nonga qaraganda mazali. (Soft bread is tastier than hard bread.)
Baland daraxt — past buta; keng yo‘l — tor ko‘cha.
