Explanation
Names of animals and birds are nouns too. Farm animals: ot (horse), sigir (cow), qo‘y (sheep), echki (goat), eshak (donkey), tuya (camel), it (dog), mushuk (cat). Birds: tovuq (hen), xo‘roz (rooster), o‘rdak (duck), g‘oz (goose), kaptar (pigeon). Their young: buzoq (calf, of a cow), qo‘zichoq (lamb), toychoq (foal), bo‘taloq (camel calf), kuchukcha (puppy), jo‘ja (chick). Sounds: the dog barks (vovullaydi), the cat miaows (miyovlaydi), the horse neighs (kishnaydi), the donkey brays (hangraydi), the rooster crows (qichqiradi).
Worked examples
Sigir — buzoq, qo‘y — qo‘zichoq, ot — toychoq, tovuq — jo‘ja.
Xo‘roz qichqirdi, tovuq jo‘jalarini chaqirdi, it hovlini qo‘riqladi. (The rooster crowed, the hen called her chicks, the dog guarded the yard.)
Class activity
“Who makes what sound?”: children imitate farm animals’ sounds and the class guesses the animal and its young.
