A very useful invention
Textbook: Part 1, pp. 60–62
GoalGive information about the wheel; tell the difference between an invention and a discovery.
New words
wheel · g‘ildirakcart · aravainvention · ixtirodiscovery · kashfiyot
Explanation
An invention is creating a useful new thing; a discovery is finding something not known before, such as a law of nature. The wheel is one of humanity’s oldest inventions. With its help carrying heavy loads became easier. The textbook has a text on how the wheel appeared; we read our own text about a wheelbarrow.
Worked examples
“The wheelbarrow”. Grandfather brings crates of apples from the garden in a wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow rolls on one wheel. Without the wheel the crates would have to be carried. People invented the wheel in very ancient times. With its help first the cart, then the bicycle and the car were made.
Round, wheel-like things: a clock, a steering wheel, a plate, a coin.
