Explanation
The power of friendship lies in unity. One stick breaks easily, a bundle of sticks is hard to break. So if friends are together, they are strong. In the legend in the textbook a father advises his son to choose a good friend. The legend teaches: a good friend is your strength, a bad friend is a sorrow of the heart.
Worked examples
“A bundle of sticks”. An old man called his three sons. He told them to break one stick. The stick broke easily. Then he gave them a bundle of sticks. No one could break it. The old man said: “If you are together, no one can defeat you.”
Unity is strength. A bundle is several sticks.
Class activity
“Bundle game”: children try to break first one dry stick, then a bundle of sticks, and discuss the difference.
