Emerald spring

Textbook: Part 2, pp. 63–66
GoalName the signs of spring; find personification (giving life to things) in a poem.
New words
spring · bahorsnowdrop (early spring flower) · boychechakbud · kurtakswallow · qaldirg‘och
Explanation

Spring is the season when nature wakes up: snow melts, buds swell, first flowers open, swallows return. The textbook has the poem “Ko‘klamjon” by Quddus Muhammadiy: a boy named O‘ktamjon calls and searches for spring, and Ko‘klamjon (spring) answers him. The poet addresses spring like a living person. We call this personification.

Worked examples
“The snowdrop’s question”. The snow had not melted yet. A snowdrop raised its head from under the snow. “Has spring come?” it asked the sun. The sun sent a warm ray and said: “It has come, my little one.” The swallows also began to fly back. The orchards blossomed and clothed themselves in green.
Personification: the snowdrop asked and the sun answered — they speak like people.
