Textbook: pp. 47–49

New words
односоставное предложение (one-member sentence) · односоставное предложение (bir tarkibli gap)назывное предложение (nominative sentence) · назывное предложение (atov gap)определённо-личное предложение (definite-personal sentence) · определённо-личное предложение (aniq shaxsli gap)главный член (main part) · главный член (bosh bo‘lak)
Explanation

A two-member sentence has both a subject and a predicate; a one-member sentence has only one main part, and the other is absent and the meaning does not require it. There are four kinds of one-member sentences: «назывные» (nominative), «определённо-личные» (definite-personal), «неопределённо-личные» (indefinite-personal) and «безличные» (impersonal). In a nominative sentence the main part is a noun in the nominative acting as the subject: «Раннее утро. Туман над рекой.» Such sentences state that something exists and quickly paint pictures of nature or a stage setting; they may be extended or unextended. In a definite-personal sentence the main part is a predicate: a verb in the 1st or 2nd person of the present or future, or in the imperative: «Жду тебя у фонтана», «Передайте, пожалуйста, соль». The personal ending makes it clear who acts, so the pronoun «я, ты, мы, вы» need not be added. These sentences are common in speech and literary texts because they avoid repeating the pronoun.

Worked examples
Nominative sentences: «Зима. Тихий лес. Снег под ногами.» — three pictures, each with only a noun in the nominative (extended or not).
Definite-personal sentences: «Люблю читать у окна» (the pronoun «я» can be added), «Приглашаем вас на концерт», «Подождите минуту».
Class activity

“Words from a picture”. For a nature picture («Осенний сад») write nominative sentences one after another, then add a definite-personal sentence from the viewer's point of view.

Practice
