Project: a health poster
Textbook: p. 19
GoalProject: making a health poster with the structure problem – cause – effect – solution.
New words
problem · muammocause · sababeffect · oqibatsolution · yechim
Explanation
We explain a health problem in four steps. Problem – what is wrong? Cause – why did it happen? Effect – what is the result? Solution – what should be done? For example: Problem – Jasur has a stomachache. Cause – He ate too many sweets. Effect – He can’t play football. Solution – He should drink water, rest and eat healthy food. To link the ideas we use because, so and if: “If you eat too many sweets, you can get toothache.” After if we give the condition; in the main clause we use can or should.
Worked examples
Poster: “Too much screen time”. Problem: Dilya has tired eyes. Cause: She watches videos for five hours a day. Effect: She has headaches and can’t see well. Solution: She should take breaks, go outside and sleep eight hours.
Poster: “Wash your hands!” Problem: Many pupils catch colds. Cause: Germs stay on hands and desks. Solution: If we wash our hands with soap, we get ill less often.
Class activity
“Poster gallery”: groups hang their posters and others read the four steps and give feedback.
Practice
1
Name the step: “He ate too many sweets.”
cause
2
Write a solution: I sit all day and my back hurts.
You should stand up, stretch and walk more.
3
Make an if-sentence: wash hands / not get ill
If you wash your hands, you don’t get ill so often.
4
Why is it useful to separate cause and effect?
If we know the cause, we can prevent the problem.
