What country would you like to visit?
Textbook: p. 70
GoalPreparing for a trip: would like to, documents, weather and clothes.
New words
passport · pasportvisa · vizacurrency · valyutaluggage · yo‘l xaltasi
Explanation
We say politely what we want with would like: “I would like to visit Japan.” (I’d like to ...). Question: “What country would you like to visit?” — “I’d like to visit Turkey because it has beautiful old cities.” Before a trip think about transport (plane, train or bus), money (cash or a card, and the local currency), the weather, the right clothes and documents (a passport, a visa, tickets). Many countries need a visa, some do not; check the exact rule on an official website. Young people should always travel with an adult.
Worked examples
We would like to visit Turkey in May. We will fly there because it is quick. The weather is warm in May, so we need light clothes and a jacket for the evenings. We need passports and tickets, and we must change some money.
— What country would you like to visit? — I’d like to visit Japan. — Why? — I’m interested in its culture. — How would you travel? — By plane.
Class activity
“Travel checklist”: the group makes a list of six things for its chosen country (documents, money, clothes ...).
