Explanation
Travel is the general idea of going from one place to another: “We travel by car.” A journey is a long way: “The journey across the desert took two days.” A trip is a short visit where you come back: “We went on a school trip to the museum.” We show equal level with as + adjective + as: “The train is as fast as the bus.” When things are not equal we use not as ... as: “My brother is not as tall as my father.” About space: Yuri Gagarin was the first person in space on 12 April 1961; Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space in 1963; in 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the Moon. Space travel is dangerous and difficult, so astronauts train for many years.
Worked examples
Our school trip to the museum was short, but the journey to Bukhara last summer was long: it took six hours by train. The seats were not as comfortable as the ones on a plane.
Astronauts must train for years. Being an astronaut is as difficult as being a surgeon, but it is more exciting than many other jobs.

“Travel, journey or trip?”: the teacher reads a sentence (The ... to the airport was long) and pupils choose the right word.
