Textbook: p. 14
GoalKnowing the names of body parts; the pattern “I have a pain in my ... I can’t ...”.
New words
heart · yurakwrist · bilakankle · to‘piqtongue · til
Explanation
Body words: head, eye, ear, nose, mouth, tongue, neck, chest, heart, stomach, wrist, thumb, ankle, knee, foot. An adult has 206 bones. To say where it hurts: “I have a pain in my back.” We often join the pain with something we cannot do: “I have a pain in my knee. I can’t run.” “I have a pain in my throat. I can’t sing.” After can’t we use the base form of the verb. To explain what happened we use the Past Simple: “Yesterday I fell and hurt my wrist.” Fell is the past of fall; hurt has the same form in the past (hurt – hurt).
Worked examples
