Knitting a glasses case
For the case take a No. 2–3 hook and wool, cotton, silk or artificial yarn; the book gives 50 g of wool and a No. 3 hook. First a chain of 16 loops is crocheted. In the second row single crochets (no-loop columns) are worked. At the end of the row, without turning the work, you carry on around the first chain, so the case becomes round. The case length should be 15–18 cm according to the glasses’ length. For the flap at the opening half the circle is worked as a cone, decreasing the loops by 2 in each row. To keep the flap closed a loop of 10 chains is made, and a button is crocheted or sewn on the other side. For a firmer case soft card can be put inside. Work carefully with hook and scissors, pass scissors closed, and have an adult help sew the button on firmly.
Paper model: make a case model from 16 × 18 cm paper, cutting the flap as a cone (scissors under adult supervision). Compare its length with a pair of glasses.
