Cutting and sewing: basics
By purpose clothes are home, everyday, sports, festive and work clothes. Making a garment follows an order: take measurements, choose a style and draw a sketch, choose fabric, construct the drawing and prepare the pattern, prepare the pattern for cutting, prepare the fabric and place the pattern, cut, sew and finish. Measurements are taken with a tape; the tape must be neither pulled tight nor loose. The person measured stands straight and relaxed, with a cord tied at the narrowest part of the waist. Circumferences are measured in full, but half is written because the apron drawing is made as a half; lengths are written in full. The basic apron measurements are bust-part length (KQU), apron length (FU), half-waist (BlAYA) and half-hip (BkAYA).
Measuring in pairs: one pupil measures the other’s wrist, neck and waist with the tape and writes half of each circumference in the notebook. Do not pull the tape tight. Measure a classmate’s waist only over clothes and with their permission.
