The verb

Explanation

Words that show the action of a person or thing are called verbs (fe’l). A verb answers nima qildi? nima qilyapti? nima qilmoqchi?: yozdi (wrote), yozyapti (is writing), yozmoqchi (wants to write). A verb is usually found in a sentence together with a noun or pronoun: Bola o‘qiydi. U chizdi. The verb is a separate word class, like the noun, adjective, numeral and pronoun.

Worked examples
Qush uchdi. (The bird flew.) – uchdi: nima qildi? – verb.
Men rasm chizyapman. (I am drawing a picture.) – chizyapman: what is (one) doing? – verb.
Class activity

“Find the action”: a child mimes an action (running, sitting), classmates say the verb and ask its question.
