The value of time

Textbook: Part 1, pp. 75–77
GoalUnderstand the value of time; name the kinds of old clocks.
New words
clock, watch; hour · soattime · vaqtsand clock · qum soatshadow · soya
Explanation

Time is a wealth that never comes back, so we must not waste it. Long ago time was measured with sundials, water clocks, sand clocks and even candles. The sundial did not work on a cloudy day. The textbook has a story by Muzaffar Zayniddinov about a clock; we read our own text.

Worked examples
“The clock”. A clock shows the time. Long ago there was a sundial: people stuck a stick in the ground and watched its shadow. On a cloudy day this clock did not work. Later water clocks and sand clocks were invented. Today we have wristwatches and wall clocks. We should value time and do things on time.
Riddle: It has numbers on its face and two hands, and it ticks without rest. (Answer: soat — clock)
Class activity

“My day”: children tell their daily routine pairing times with activities (7:00 — I get up, 8:00 — school ...).
