The fox has many tricks
Textbook: Part 3, pp. 16–18
GoalUnderstand the image of the fox; explain the consequences of cunning.
New words
cunning · ayyortrick · hiylapraise · maqtovcareful · ehtiyotkor
Explanation
In tales the fox is often cunning and tricky. In the Tajik folk tale in the textbook the fox uses the tiger’s vanity to make him fall into a ravine. Honesty is better than cunning. Behind praise a trick can sometimes be hidden, so we must be careful.
Worked examples
“The fox and the hens”. The fox came to the henhouse and said: “I will teach you a new song, close your eyes.” The hens closed their eyes. But the rooster kept one eye open and saw the fox. He crowed loudly. The gardener came out into the yard and the fox ran away to the forest. Since then the hens do not trust a stranger’s sweet words.
Conclusion: think before trusting sweet words.
