The Motherland begins at the doorstep
Textbook: Part 1, pp. 11–13
GoalExplain “the homeland begins at the doorstep”; tell how to look after one’s own neighbourhood.
New words
neighbourhood · mahallaclean, tidy · ozodaflourishing, well-kept · obodseedling · ko‘chat
Explanation
“The homeland begins at the doorstep” means that our home, street and neighbourhood are part of the homeland. If we keep our yard clean and plant and look after trees, we help make the homeland flourish. The textbook has a story on this theme by Shoira Ismoilova.
Worked examples
“Our neighbourhood”. Sardor lives in our neighbourhood. Every Saturday he sweeps the yard. This spring he planted an apple seedling by his gate. He waters it every day. The neighbours’ children followed Sardor’s example. Now our street looks much greener.
Main idea: small good deeds make the homeland flourish.
Class activity
“My contribution”: each child writes on a paper “leaf” one thing they will do to improve their neighbourhood and sticks it on the “homeland tree”.
