Independent creative project: designing the making of a bracelet
In the bracelet project, the preparatory stage studies demand for the jewellery, similar items and design. In design, flexible thin wire, beads of different sizes, a metal ruler and scissors or wire cutters are put in the list of materials and tools, and a sketch of the bracelet is drawn. By the technological map wire is cut into pieces of equal length, ends are tied, beads are threaded on and tied at equal intervals, beads of another colour are then added, the ends are decorated and the extra wire is cut off. In the economic justification the cost (price of wire and beads) is worked out and compared with the price of a similar item on the market; in the environmental justification it is stated that harmless materials were chosen, the workplace was cleaned and the room ventilated. In the advertising part the product’s advantages are written, then a 3–5 minute presentation is given. Wire ends can be sharp and cause injury; wear glasses when cutting so a flying piece does not hit the eye; small beads can be swallowed by small children, so such jewellery is not given to children under 3.
Presentation practice: prepare a 3-minute talk “My bracelet”: why this design, which materials, cost and environmental points. Classmates ask 2 questions and judges grade on 4 criteria (idea, calculation, safety, speech) on a 5-point scale. Cut wire only with goggles.
