Practical work: a thread-graphics panel (flower basket)
The flower-basket panel is made by a technological map. First a dotted template is taken, a piece of porolon (thin foam material) is cut to its size, the template is laid on it and fixed with a clip. The dots are pierced through the template with a needle; when the template is removed the basket shape remains in the foam. Then thread is passed through from the back and its end is stuck down; threads are passed in turn along the upper and lower points, forming the base of the basket. The base and handle are stitched as an “X” opposite to the direction of the thread first passed. Finally flowers are made from crepe or coloured paper and glued into the basket, and the panel is mounted in a coloured frame. During work do not lose the needle, keep it on the table or in a box, do not touch others with it, use scissors only when needed, and never put small parts in the mouth.
Set up a “safe work area”: at each desk a box for needles and separate places for glue and scissors. A duty pupil counts the needles at the start and end of work. A pair draws the stages of the panel on a guide sheet with pictures.
