Types of production in Uzbekistan
The process of creating economic goods to meet people’s needs is called production. It divides into material production (industry, agriculture, construction, freight transport) and non-material production (education, medicine, cultural and household services, administration): the first creates goods, the second services. Industry has two big parts: heavy industry (mining, metallurgy, machine building, energy) extracts and processes natural resources and makes machine tools and machines; light industry makes fabric, clothing and footwear from raw materials such as cotton, wool and leather. Every production has three factors: labour force (the sum of a person’s mental and physical abilities), instruments of labour (machine tool, machine, equipment) and objects of labour (raw material, materials). The two industries depend on each other: machine building supplies equipment to light industry, and light industry supplies raw material.
Split the class into three groups. Each fills a table for one local enterprise or service (a bakery, a tailoring workshop, a clinic): material or non-material, heavy or light industry, the three factors. Visits to enterprises only with the teacher and with permission.
