Explanation

Asqad Muxtor was born in Farg‘ona on 23 December 1920. His family originally came from the Tatarstan side and he was the third of twelve children; after his father died in 1931 he was brought up in an orphanage. He later studied in Tashkent and Samarkand and graduated from the philology faculty. He was a poet, prose writer, playwright and translator, and rendered works of Sophocles, Shakespeare, Schiller and Pushkin into Uzbek. Honoured with the title “People’s Writer of Uzbekistan”, he died in Tashkent on 17 April 1997.
