Explanation

Abdulla Qodiriy was born in Tashkent on 10 April 1894 in a middling family. He did not study regularly at schools and madrasas, but thanks to his thirst for knowledge became one of the best-informed people of his day; before 1917 he worked as an errand boy, craftsman and gardener in various households. His stories and feuilletons (in the magazine “Mushtum”) were popular among the people, and “O‘tkan kunlar”, “Mehrobdan chayon” and “Obid ketmon” are major examples of Uzbek prose. The textbook says that no writer played so important a role as Qodiriy in shaping today’s Uzbek literary language. The writer was arrested at the end of 1937 and lost his life in 1938, during the years of mass repression.
