Chapters from the novel “Mehrobdan chayon” (Scorpion from the Altar)
The chapters in the textbook are set in the time of the Qo‘qon khanate. First comes Anvar’s childhood: he is born as the sixth child of a poor dyer, his twelve-year-old sister Nodira gives him his name, and he is left an orphan when his parents die early. Nodira wants him to study, and in the end Anvar moves into the house of Solih maxdum and Mohlar oyim; there he grows close to the little girl Ra’no, grieves deeply for his friend Nasim, and later begins working as a clerk (mirzo) at the khan’s court. In the later chapters Anvar’s friend Sultonali wins the khan’s trust and becomes chief secretary, while Shahodat mufti, Kalonshoh mirzo and mulla Abdurahmon agree to write a petition against him. While Anvar is in hiding, a herald announces that Sultonali has been seized and will be put to death; Anvar then hands himself over to the khan to save his friend, and under the gallows his brother Qobilboy and his friends rescue him. In these chapters Qodiriy shows friendship, loyalty and courage against tyranny.
Put Anvar, Ra’no, Sultonali, Qobilboy and mulla Abdurahmon in a table and note each character’s nature in one word.
