The sunny land

Textbook: Part 1, pp. 20–21
GoalLearn about the Sun; tell the meaning of the poem “O‘zbekiston quyoshi”.
New words
the Sun · Quyoshstar · yulduzlight, ray · nursunny, rich in sun · serquyosh
Explanation

The Sun is the star closest to the Earth. It gives us light and warmth. The textbook has the poem “O‘zbekiston quyoshi” by Iskandar Rahmon: the poet describes the sun as calling people to goodness and spreading kindness. Uzbekistan has many sunny days, so we say “serquyosh o‘lka” (the sunny land).

Worked examples
“The Sun”. The Sun is the star closest to the Earth. It gives us light and warmth. Without the sun plants would not grow. Its light reaches the Earth in eight minutes. Uzbekistan has many sunny days, so we call it the sunny land. We do not look straight at the sun because it hurts our eyes.
Similar meaning: nur – yorug‘lik (light). Opposite: yaxshilik – yomonlik (goodness – evil).
