Explanation

In this section we read about the four seasons, their change, winter fun, spring, summer and autumn. In Rauf Tolib’s poem “Qish yaqin” (Winter is near) in the textbook a bear and a hare discuss how to prepare for winter. Some animals (e.g. the bear, the hedgehog) sleep in winter. Each season has its own holiday: Navruz, Children’s Day, Independence Day, New Year.

Worked examples
“Before winter”. In autumn animals prepare for winter. The squirrel gathers nuts and seeds. The bear stores fat and lies down in its den. Birds fly away to warm countries. People also prepare food and firewood for winter. In spring everything wakes up.
Season and holiday: spring – Navruz, summer – Children’s Day (1 June), autumn – Independence Day (1 September), winter – New Year.
