Exhibitions, contests and the rules for choosing participants
Exhibitions and contests are held to preserve traditional crafts, raise product quality and guide young people toward trades; they can be organised in one school or in several schools together. The contest has four stages: registering participants, testing knowledge, assessing the independent creative work, and a practical task in the chosen direction. The first three stages give 50 points (questionnaire 5, knowledge 20, creative work 25), and the fourth also gives 50: fit with the topic 5, correct organisation of the workplace 10, work following the technological map 15, originality of design 10, observing safety rules 10. Participants are chosen by interest, preparation and age, and judging is done by a jury of experienced teachers. In each stage places 1, 2 and 3 are set and winners are rewarded. In the practical stage sharp tools, hot tools and electrical equipment are used only under the teacher’s supervision, and following safety rules is graded with its own points.
Role play: a 3-person jury and 3 participants. Participants show a small item (paper flower, patterned card); the jury scores by the stage-4 table. Then discuss which criterion lost the most points. Demonstrating work with real tools is done with the teacher.
