Explanation
Version 1. Work in a small team and pick one painting or statue. Divide the roles: one pupil introduces the work (title, date made, artist, where it is kept), another interprets it (what it is about, what the artist wants to say), a third gives the team’s reasons for liking it. A model work: “The Kiss” – Gustav Klimt, 1907–1908, Vienna. Version 2. Choose a famous person for Madame Tussauds: 1) full name; 2) their best-known achievement; 3) your reason for wanting their wax figure. Listen to other presentations, choose the best and say why.
Worked examples
Introduction: Our work is “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt. It was painted in 1907–1908 and it is kept in Vienna. Interpretation: It shows two people wrapped in a golden cloak. It may stand for love and closeness. Our opinion: We like it because the gold and the patterns look warm and rich.
Madame Tussauds: I would like to see Abdulla Qodiriy there. He wrote the novel Days Gone By. I would like to see him because his novel opened a new period in Uzbek prose.
Class activity
Presentations: groups speak for one minute; listeners choose the best and give a reason.
