Explanation

Independence Day is the date when a country became free from another state’s rule or declared its independence. A nationality word comes from the country name: Brazil – Brazilian, Indonesia – Indonesian, Kazakhstan – Kazakh, the USA – American, Uzbekistan – Uzbek. Many end in -an or -ian, some in -ish or -ese (Swedish, Chinese), and some have their own form (Uzbek, French). We write a date as “4 July 1776” and say “the fourth of July”. We describe holiday customs in the Present Simple: People hang flags. Families watch fireworks. For questions we use Wh-words: When do Americans celebrate it? What do people do?

Worked examples
Uzbekistan declared independence on 1 September 1991. On that day Uzbeks hold concerts in parks and squares, and children wear their best clothes. In the USA the date is 4 July. Americans have picnics with their families and watch fireworks in the evening.
