The legislative body of Uzbekistan
The Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the supreme representative body of state power and exercises legislative power. It has two chambers: the lower chamber – the Legislative Chamber – and the upper chamber – the Senate. The 150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber are elected by citizens by secret ballot and work on a permanent basis. The Senate expresses the interests of the regions: its members are mainly elected by local councils and some are appointed by the President (the exact number is set by the Constitution and law). The term of both chambers is five years. Deputies and senators have immunity. The right to submit a draft law (legislative initiative) belongs to subjects such as the President, deputies, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General and the representative body of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. A law is usually considered and passed in the Legislative Chamber, approved by the Senate, signed by the President and enters into force after official publication. The Oliy Majlis adopts the state budget and oversees the implementation of laws.
“Path of a law”: the class arranges six cards in the right order (draft submitted – Legislative Chamber considers – Senate approves – President signs – officially published – enters into force).
