Project: a debate about professional sport

Textbook: p. 27
GoalProject: holding a debate “It is not good to do professional sport”; giving opinions and arguments.
New words
debate · munozarafor · foydasigaagainst · qarshiargument · dalil
Explanation

In a debate there are two teams: for and against. To give an opinion: “I think ...”, “In my opinion ...”, “I agree because ...”. To give arguments: “First, ...”, “Second, ...”, “For example, ...”. Arguments against professional sport: a lot of hard work, little time for the family, the risk of injury, sadness when you lose. Arguments for: a healthy body, medals and prizes, pride for the country, travel and new friends. The rule: listen politely, do not interrupt, and reply with “Thank you for your idea”. Useful words: dangerous, healthy, famous, medal, practice.

Worked examples
Team A (for). First, professional sportspeople stay healthy because they train every day. Second, they make their country proud. For example, an Olympic medal makes millions of people happy.
Team B (against). First, young athletes train for hours, so they have little free time. Second, an injury can end their career. In my opinion, children should do sport for fun first.
