Safety rules in woodworking
In the carpentry workshop, work clothes are put on first: the coat’s sleeve and front buttons are fastened and tie ends tucked in. The workplace and tools are inspected before use, only tools in good order are used and a faulty tool is reported to the teacher. Without the teacher’s permission you do not leave your workplace or work at machines, and you use only equipment whose structure you have studied. Tools lie in a convenient position on the workplace with their sharp parts pointing away from you and from others. At the end tools are checked, wiped and put back; the workplace is cleaned of waste and shavings with a special brush and hands are washed. If someone is hurt or a rule is broken, tell the teacher at once.
Safety scenarios: the teacher reads situation cards (“loose-handled hammer”, “a friend is sweeping shavings by hand”, “a dangling tie”). The group says what to do. No tools are used.
