Explanation

After school, technical and vocational schools (texnikums) teach many mechanic trades in the service sector. For example, there are mechanics who repair hydroelectric station equipment, who install and set up factory machine tools, who service automated lines, who look after ventilation and cooling units, who adjust bread and confectionery equipment, and who service flour-mill and feed-making equipment. One thing unites them all: knowing well how a machine is built and keeping it always ready for work. Such a craftsman notices a fault early, cleans, oils, replaces and adjusts parts. The work involves hot and rotating parts, so safety rules are followed strictly.

Worked examples
If a dough mixer in a bakery is not adjusted, bread quality falls – the bakery equipment mechanic fixes it.
Hydropower mechanics repair the turbines of a hydroelectric station.
Class activity

Trade map: the class sorts 6 trade cards into 3 groups (energy, food, machine building). Each group prepares a 1-minute presentation on its trade.
