Explanation

Safety rules protect you and the people around you from injury. All buttons of the work clothes must be fastened, sleeve cuffs must fit tight on the wrist and hair must be under a cap, because loose clothes and long hair can catch on moving parts. Do only the task the teacher gave, in the order given. Do not work at a machine without the teacher’s permission and do not touch equipment unfamiliar to you. Use only tools that are in good order and only for their purpose. Do not get distracted and do not disturb classmates. If something breaks or someone is hurt, tell the teacher at once.

Worked examples
A pupil in a wide-sleeved shirt first changes into work clothes with cuffed sleeves.
An unknown button on a machine must never be tried out; the teacher is asked first.
Class activity

Poster: a group draws a poster “Workshop rules” on A3 paper (7 rules, each with a picture), using only pencil, coloured pencils and a ruler. The teacher hangs the finished poster on the classroom wall.
