Explanation

A traffic light has three lights: red – stop, yellow – get ready, green – go. The textbook poem “Uch ko‘zli narsa to‘g‘risida” (About the three-eyed thing) is written as a riddle; its author is John Ciardi, who wrote poems for children. In the poem the traffic light is shown as a living creature. We do not retell the poem; we read our own text. The first traffic light in the world was installed in London in 1868, near the Parliament building.

Worked examples
“At the crossroads”. Nigora reached the crossroads on her way to school. The red light of the traffic light was on, so she waited at the roadside. When the green light came on, Nigora looked left first, then right. Seeing that the cars had stopped, she crossed along the zebra crossing. A boy beside her wanted to run across on red; Nigora stopped him. “Following the rule is everyone’s safety,” she said.
Riddle: One pole has three eyes; the red says “stop”, the green says “go”. What is it? (Traffic light)
