How should we read a book?
Textbook: Part 4, pp. 33–36
GoalKnow and apply ways of reading a book effectively; tell apart what to do before, during and after reading.
New words
title, heading · sarlavhaconclusion · xulosanote · qaydthinking · fikrlash
Explanation
Reading a book is also a skill to be learned. The textbook text “Kitobni qanday o‘qish kerak?” (How should we read a book?) gives advice on working with a book. We do not repeat it; we read our own advice. Before reading, we look at the title and pictures and guess what it is about. While reading, we mark unfamiliar words and ask questions. After reading, we briefly tell the main idea.
Worked examples
“Three steps”. When you get a new book, take three steps. First step – before reading: from the cover, title and pictures guess what the book will be about. Second step – while reading: mark unfamiliar words with a pencil and find their meaning in a dictionary. Third step – after reading: tell the main idea in 2–3 sentences and share a part you liked with a friend.
Remember: take care of the book, do not fold its pages.
Class activity
“Guess and check”: children guess from a new book’s cover, then read the first page and check their guess.
