Kindness
Textbook: Part 1, pp. 63–66
GoalUnderstand that kindness is done sincerely, not to boast; evaluate the characters’ actions.
New words
kindness, good deed · yaxshilikboastful · maqtanchoqmodest · kamtargrateful · minnatdor
Explanation
True kindness is done modestly, expecting nothing. The author of the textbook story “Yaxshilik” (Kindness), Farhod Musajonov, wrote stories, novellas and plays for children. In the story a child and an old neighbour talk about kindness. We do not retell it; we read our own text. Proverb: “Yaxshilik qil, daryoga tashla, baliq bilmasa, Xoliq biladi” (Do good and throw it in the river; if the fish do not know, the Creator does).
Worked examples
“Apples at the door”. Kamola passed neighbour Granny Halima’s door every day. The granny’s legs ached and she could not go to the market. One day Kamola picked apples in her orchard, put the basket at the granny’s door and said nothing. Later she did not boast to her friend either. A week later the granny said to Kamola: “The apples in the basket were so sweet, who left them, I wonder?” Kamola only smiled.
Question: Why did Kamola not say her name? Answer: she did not do the good deed to boast.
Class activity
