The book is strength

Textbook: Part 4, pp. 37–40
GoalExpress the place of books in human life; find comparison and contrast in a poem.
New words
treasure · xazinalight, knowledge · ziyoopening, window · tuynukreading, study · mutolaa
Explanation

A book is a treasury of knowledge. It opens new worlds to a person. The textbook has the poem “Kitob — kuch” (The book is strength) by Nabijon Ermat, where the value of books is said in poetic language. We do not retell the poem; we read our own text. A text may also contain contrast: light – darkness, knowledge – ignorance. Finding them helps us understand the idea more deeply.

Worked examples
“The book window”. A book is the second window of our home, says my grandmother. If the first window shows only the yard, the book window shows the whole world. A child who reads has a wide world: he knows about far countries, animals and stars. The world of a child who does not read is narrow: he sees only his own yard. I promised to read ten pages every night.
Comparison: book – window. Contrast: wide – narrow.
Class activity

“Book words”: children find comparisons for a book (treasure, friend, window) and explain one.

Practice
1
What does grandmother compare the book to?
2
What does the book window show?
3
What does a child who does not read see?
4
What did the child promise?
5
State the contrasting pair in the text.
