The butterfly
Textbook: Part 4, pp. 21–25
GoalShow kindness to small creatures in nature; know the stages of a butterfly’s development.
New words
butterfly · kapalakcaterpillar · qurtchapupa · g‘umbakwing · qanot
Explanation
A butterfly develops in four stages: egg, caterpillar, pupa and butterfly. Even small creatures are needed by nature: a butterfly pollinates flowers. The textbook has the story “Kapalak” (The butterfly) by Mahmud Murodov; despite its title, it tells how two brothers heal a sparrow chick with a broken leg and then set it free. We do not retell it; we read our own text. We do not harm creatures; we watch them carefully.
Worked examples
“The butterfly at the window”. In the morning Sevinch saw a butterfly bumping its wings against the windowpane. She gently held it in her palm, opened the window and released it into the garden. The butterfly landed on a flower. Grandmother explained: “A butterfly was once a caterpillar and slept in a pupa.” Sevinch learned that one should not touch the wings, because its wings are very delicate and easily damaged. She decided to plant more flowers in the garden.
Stages: egg → caterpillar → pupa → butterfly.
