Who deserves the inheritance?
Textbook: Part 3, pp. 73–75
GoalUnderstand true honesty: it comes from conscience, not fear; evaluate legend characters.
New words
honest, fair · halolconscience · vijdonwallet, purse · hamyonworthy · munosib
Explanation
True honesty is not because we fear punishment or people’s eyes, but so that our conscience is at peace. In the textbook legend “Merosga kim munosib?” (Who deserves the inheritance?) a father testing his children is described. We do not repeat it; we read our own legend. When judging legend characters we look for the answer to “Why did he act so?”
Worked examples
“A wallet on the road”. Two children returning from the market found a wallet on the road. The first looked around: “Nobody is looking, let us keep it.” The second said: “How worried the owner must be,” and found an address in a document in the wallet. He delivered the wallet to its owner. The owner, grateful, wanted to give the child money; the child did not take it: “It is my duty.” In the evening he slept peacefully.
Question: Why did the second child return the wallet? Answer: because of his conscience and pity for the owner.
