Respect the elderly
Textbook: Part 3, pp. 58–59
GoalState rules of respect for the elderly; build a row of synonyms.
New words
elderly · keksawhite-bearded elder · mo‘ysafidblessing · duorespect · hurmat
Explanation
The elderly are our school of life. They have seen a lot and have great experience. The textbook has the poem “Keksalarni hurmat qil” (Respect the elderly) by Miltiqboy Xonnazarov, which teaches a child to honour old people. We do not retell the poem; we read our own text. Keksa, qari, mo‘ysafid, chol, kampir are words close in meaning. We use them in speech with respect.
Worked examples
“A seat on the bus”. Mirzo was sitting on the bus on his way home from school. An old man came in with a heavy bag. Mirzo stood up and said: “Assalomu alaykum, grandfather, please take a seat.” The old man said thank you and blessed him. Mirzo helped hold the old man’s bag. On the way Mirzo felt very good, because respect for the old brightened his heart.
Synonym row: keksa – qari – mo‘ysafid (all: elderly).
